Courage Isn’t The Absence of Fear

It’s so easy to talk about courage when things are great, and when life is going our way. It’s completely different to be in the middle of the storm, trees falling, the wind whipping, battered by the rain and darkness, not knowing when the onslaught will let up.

We are all being challenged right now. And it’s easy to let fear creep in. It’s contagious.

So is courage. We watch movies that inspire us— we watch our hero’s fight, physically and emotionally. We watch them stand strong in the face of adversity, and our chests rise, goosebumps chill our body, and our throat hurts a bit as we fight back tears.

We are inspired by other human beings, courageous in the midst of a battle.

Let’s be those human beings right now.

What does courage look like?

It’s certainly not a lack of fear. It’s not a burying of our heads in the sand and hoping for the best, ignorant of our surroundings.

It’s us, pushing onward, carrying out the mission in the face of the storm.

What is your mission? Who are you serving? What’s the driving force in your life that keeps you moving, keeps you working, and keeps you giving unselfishly? Remember it, and push on.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s bravery in the midst of it.

Remember your purpose. Remember why you do what you do in the first place, and then push. Press on.

In these times of uncertainty, the most courageous thing you can do is serve others. And not surprisingly, it’s also the action that will make you feel the most comforted, and the most alive.

Be courageous. Be brave. Serve one another. And we will make it through this together.
